The Dreaded Test Dream Sequence

Imagine you are rushing into a classroom or testing center, anxious to take your test but when you sit down everything starts going wrong. First you can’t keep your pencil from falling off of your desk.

Then you notice that the testing paper is on a different subject altogether and you are completely unprepared to answer any of the questions. Then, when you are about to make a guess at the first question the bell rings and everybody else hands in their completed test except you.

This is an example of a testing dream sequence; a dream sequence that many people have had or can relate to. Taking an academic test is a commonplace stressor that leaves an impression of feelings and anxieties as well as a logistical blueprint in your mind; all of which your subconscious mind can implement into a dream.

The basic premise of a testing dream is that of being underprepared for some important event. The test being taken in the dream could be about any bizarre mixture of mathematics, geography or underwater basket weaving; however the real life stressor could be a personal relationship, a job or anything, just as likely not related to actual academics.

If you are reliving the stress and anxieties of your daily life in your dreams it might be a good idea to figure out what real ‘life tests’ you are currently underprepared for. If needs be, get off your latex mattress and get to work on the problem.

There is also the possibility that your test taking dream is a reflection, not of your level of preparation for life situations, but rather a reflection of your confidence in the preparations that you have made. If you have a low level of confidence in these preparations then you may likely have a low or weak level of confidence in yourself.

If you are taking a test in your dream and you know the answers but for some reason you cannot take the test and prove that you know it then yours may be an issue of self-confidence. You react in dreams the way that you would react to a real life stressor, so if you fail to complete your dream test for some reason other than a lack of knowledge, you either are under confident in your abilities in a normal situation or you feel that life has thrown you a curve ball that you can’t handle.
